Consciously clearing out your space and restyling to prepare for spring.

Spring is on the way. Even though in different parts of the country we are experiencing a major snow storm, the warmer weather will be here before you know it. It’s a perfect time to think about clearing out, rearranging and starting fresh.

Let’s start at the beginning, the foundation of your earthly existence, your home. It’s where you eat, sleep, spend time with your loved ones; for some, it’s where you work. It’s a place you need to be able to relax and rejuvenate. The infrastructure that is created in your space can affect what happens in your daily life and ultimately determines how productive and efficient you are moving throughout your day.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself to find out if it’s time to make some changes.

1. Do you have piles of stuff laying around and aren't sure what to do with them?

2. Are you constantly apologizing for the way your house looks when you have company?

3. Do you feel completely comfortable and relaxed in your space?

4. Is it functional or are you feeling frustrated by the lack of ease in your home?

It all starts when you wake up. What are you waking up to? What does your bedroom look like? Is it an atmosphere that supports a good start to your day? Are there clothes everywhere filling the room with clutter, creating a chaotic energy? Or do you feel happy when you look around the room, eager to make a great start?

Going to get dressed….What does your closet look like? Is it easy to get in and choose something to wear or are you feeling frustrated by all the spill over from disorganization?

Clutter in your space alters your state of mind. Clearing out and rearranging your belongings can create a completely different essence, one that will help you create a better reality.

So how do you go about implementing the space you desire?

It first starts with setting intentions.

  1. Go through each room and make a list of how you want to use the space.

  2. Consider how you want it to feel. Do you want to create a serene environment or a work space where you need it to feel energized?

  3. What is the function of the room? What are all of the things you will be doing in each of these spaces?

Once you are done defining your intentions and how you need the space to function, move onto the next part.

The clearing out process. It’s important to have things that evoke joy, serve a purpose and reflect who you are. Focus on one room at a time. If you are feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to begin, the easiest thing to do is pick up any one item and ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Is this an item I use regularly?

  2. How does this item make me feel? Do I really want it in my space?

  3. Is this something I am benefiting from or is it creating more clutter?

  4. Is it an absolute necessity?

Make 3 separate piles.

  1. Keep

  2. Release

  3. Not sure

Put the release items in a box and physically take them out of your space right away. With the “not sure” pile, you may need to give it another go around or obtain some help. Put on some music or enlist the help of a friend. Do whatever you need to do to make it a fun process. When you are done, you will feel lighter and accomplished!

The restyling process. Now that you’ve gone through “clearing out”, look at what you are keeping to incorporate into the restyling process. Moving items around can open up the energy, create a cleaner flow, and make the space feel more desirable.

  1. Try switching up the arrangement of your furniture.

  2. A fresh coat of paint or adding some color on the walls is an easy way to create a crisp new look.

  3. Bring in some seasonal pillows or accessories to enliven the space. The smallest gesture can make a huge impact!

Pillows

It’s an expanding and enlightening process, consciously looking at what’s in your space and deciding if moving forward it serves you.
